Top 10 Highest Paid Sports Coaches in The World: Coaches are rich to say the least, the ones that excel in the sport they coach make even more. Coaches are known to combine strategy, motivation, resilience, a strong locker room speech and experience to win. The ability of a coach to come up with the ultimate team on-season and keep their players focused off-season is fundamental in the world of sport. So many coaches can do this on a weekly basis, but only a few can translate this into championships and trophies. The ones that have done this are world class coaches and have made it into the top 10 list of the world’s best paid sports coaches 2017.

1. Pete Carroll – Seattle Seahawks – $ 8 Million

Born on September 15th 1951, Pete Carroll is the Seahawks head coach. Despite having never played professional football, his long standing career in the NFL dates back 32 years. He is a known joker and earned the nickname ’’Big Balls Pete’’ for his team’s somewhat risky moves. He is a prankster sometimes bordering on the lunatic. He once faked his own death as a Halloween prank. He also brought a police officer to arrest rookie bully Everson Griffen.

2. Sean Payton – New Orleans Saints – $8 Million

Born in December 1963, Sean Paytonis the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. He won the super bowl with the Saints back in 2009. He made his debut to the NFL as quarterback coach for the New York iants in 1997. He became head coach of the Saints in 2006. In 2012, he was slapped with a season-long suspension for the role he played in the ‘’Bounty Gate Scandal’’. The scandal involved him filming an opposing team illegally.

3. Jurgen Klopp – Liverpool FC – $8.7 Million

Jurgen Nobert Klopp is the current Liverpool FC head coach. He was Borussia Dortmund coach and five trophies later, he left for England. He holds a diploma in Sports Science from Goethe University in Germany. Klopp used to walk home from the game while at Dortmund, and said he took the time to think about how the team faired. He once injured himself celebrating his team’s goal. He recently also broke his glasses celebrating a Liverpool goal.

4. Arsene Wenger – Arsenal FC – $9.9 Million

Arsenal’s long serving head coach, 67 year old Arsene Wenger was born in Strasbourg, France and has been Arsenal head coach and manager for the past two decades. He is also the most successful arsenal coach, having once led them to a 49-game winning streak back in 2004. He is the first foreign manager to win the Premier League. He is a published author having written the title ‘’The Spirit of Conquest’’ in 1997. Away from football he loves the whole idea of horses, from owning them to riding them. At the club, he Is yet to win the Champions League although he has won the Premier League three times and the F.A cup 6 times. He can speak 6 languages including French, German, English, Spanish and Japanese.

5. Tom Thibodeau – Minnesota Timberwoves – $10 Million

Newly appointed head coach Tom Thibadeau has over the years been associated with the Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets. He is, however, currently head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves. When asked about his dismissal by the Bulls last year, he said he has ‘’no regrets’’. He is also the assistant to the national basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski. Upon being let off by the Bulls, he stated that his best title chances hit a snag when Rose was injured in game 1 during their first round series against Philadelphia. 6. Glenn ‘’Doc’’ Rivers – Los Angeles Clippers – $10 Million

Glenn Rivers is head coach of the Clippers, and doubles up as the Senior Vice-President of Basketball Operations. He spent nine seasons with the Boston Celtics, leading them to the 2008 NBA championships. His previous teams include the New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks and the Clippers as a player, and Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics and currently the Clippers. He joined the NBA as a player in 1983. He is known to keep his private life private and shies away from any publicized controversy.

7. Gregg Popovich – San Antonio Spurs – $11 Million

Spurs have spent more than one and a half decade with one head coach, his name is Gregg Popovich. With four championships to his name at spurs, he happens to be the only currently active coach with more than one championship. He holds a degree in Soviet Studies from the United States Air Force Academy. He served for five years in the US military. Before coming to the NBA he previously coached the US Military Basketball team. He is has been the executive vice-president of basketball operations

8. Carlo Ancelotti – Bayern Munich FC- $13.7 Million

Bayern Munich head coach Carlo Ancelotti is one of the most successful sports coaches in tier one football. Ancelotti was personally picked by Sir Alex Ferguson to replace him at Manchester United. He won Europe’s most coveted trophy, the Champions League with AC Milan as a player and most recently with Real Madrid as head coach. No single player has ever spoken ill of the Italian. This has always been deemed as the reason behind his success as a team coach and manager. He is a generally a delightful manager, and is a perfect host at his home, according to close personal friends.

9. Jose Mourinho – Manchester United – $18.7 Million

Portuguese football and Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho is one controversial manager. After stints at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, he returned to Chelsea and was later fired two trophies later. He is one of the most sought after coaches, having been successful everywhere he goes. He has a rival in Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger, and once referred to him as a ‘’Specialist in Failure’’. Wenger has always chosen to be the ‘’bigger person’’. Jose Mourinho is known for his ability to transform teams into title winning sides and has once called himself ‘’the special one’’.

10. Pep Guardiola – Manchester City FC -$18.7 Million

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola is the best paid coach in the world. The 45 year old has previously coached FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich, winning trophies and awards with both clubs. He is a former player himself, having played in Europe and Qatar. Aside from football, he is an art lover, does not do one-on-one interviews, and speaks three languages; Spanish, German and English. He is also a published author, having written a book titled ‘’La meva gent, el meu futbol’’ (meaning My People, My Football). Finding a copy of it is hard, and it is very costly.

So, these above are the Top 10 Highest Paid Sports Coaches in The World 2017. It seems the most lucrative games to coach are European football, American football and basketball. While coaches’ salaries are negotiated on a yearly basis, a coach’s contract is negotiated on a long term basis and then subdivided into years. The following figures might not be accurate as these are just remuneration figures. Other additions include trophy incentives and performance bonuses.
